Where do we launch from?
We are so fortunate to be on the beautiful Kennebecasis River. Your trip starts and ends at our shop at 1075 Main st. Hampton (The Light House River Centre) Don’t worry about about battling a typical river current on your way back! The river is tidal which makes for a smooth paddle up and down the river (the wind can be against you in some areas, it just makes it more fun!)
What type of kayaks do you have?
We supply Wilderness Systems and Old Town touring or recreational kayaks with sit-in cockpits. The largest cockpit is 22” in width, and the largest weight limit is up to 300 pounds. We do our best to fit each paddler with the appropriate sized kayak in our fleet at the time of booking. All Paddlers should be comfortable with the sit-in cockpit style of kayaks.
Our Double Kayaks have a median sit-in cockpit width of 18”.

Can I bring my children?
Under 18’s are required to be with their guardians when kayaking, canoeing or on a SUP board and should have paddling experience when renting their own boat.
Children under 10 must be in the same boat with their guardian (i.e canoe or double kayak) Double kayaks are better suited to older children that can handle a paddle.
Bringing your own lifejacket or PFD for your children is encouraged.
Please note that if a child is in the front seat of a double kayak, the parent in the back will not be able to reach or tend to the child while on the water given the length of the kayak.
If you plan to rent a canoe for your family and have never canoed before, we strongly recommend gaining some experience in a canoe before bringing your children on the water. Canoes are a lot of fun and can be great for a family outing but can be difficult to control and require knowledge of certain paddle strokes to properly control the boat.
The river is used by many fisherman and recreational motor boats. Wakes from these boats can make a canoe feel unstable and can cause it to tip when not approached properly. -
I’ve never kayaked or canoed before. Will I be alright?
We go over basic kayaking technique & etiquette to ensure our paddlers are comfortable out on the water. Kayaking is, for the most part, intuitive but it is not for everyone and thats ok! Tipping over in a kayak or canoe is not out of the ordinary. Paddlers should feel comfortable swimming a capsized kayak or canoe over to the shore for re-entry.
The river is shared with fisherman and recreational motorboats, so please be mindful of your surroundings when out on the water.
What should I wear?
Expect to get wet! Do not wear shoes that you do not want getting wet. Leave the Air Jordans at home cool guy. Getting in and out of the boats can be tricky and usually ends in stepping in water. Water shoes, sandals, crocs, flip-flops are all good options. Wear a hat and sunscreen and bring plenty of water!

Can I bring my dog?
Absolutely! Dogs work best in canoes, although small dogs can often fit in our recreational kayaks. Just let us know you're bringing your pal. We unfortunately don't have PFDs for dogs, so please bring your own.
How many people fit in a canoe?
2-3 adults, depending on size, or we often have 2 adults with 2 children. Just let us know who is coming when booking and we'll be able to point you to the correct boat.
Can I fish?
You can! On our side of the bridge, you can fish with no license as the river is semi-tidal. Canoes usually work best if this is your plan. BYOB (bring your own bait and gear!)

Why are rentals 2 hours?
Most people spend about 2 hours on the water. The river (and Beamer’s Creek) are amazing to discover and take time to explore. The price is not based on an hourly rate but is for the rental itself, including fitting you and your group to boats & PFDs, providing instruction, getting you in & out of the water, and cleaning & sanitizing equipment. You’ll be glad you have the time once you’re paddling, it truly is beautiful and even gives you a chance to stop for a picnic or just relax on the water without rushing!
If you'd like additional time, it is a charge of $10 per hour after the initial 2 hour fee. Just send us an email letting us know what you're looking for and we can book you in!
